Well FMOB, it took an organisation decades to realise this? Finally we get a report and article published about the big "white elephant" reasonably intelligent people (most of us hopefully) have known most of their lives. One upside of the "Left leaning" BBC.

Democracy in the UK my arse ! :)

Will anything happen? Nope. Establishment, political classes, corporate owners all part of a club we ain't and will never be part of. Nothing will change that will affect the disproportionate distribution of wealth.

Apologies for spamming this forum with this thread. Please indulge me. It helps with me therapy to share this sort of thing because although I am resigned to the facade called democracy. it still "grinds my gears" after all these years. But the media (90% of journos from middle class/wealthy backgrounds and private schools) are part of it so nothing will ever change.

Thanks for listening to a rambling, old, senile twat :-(

How has this (i.e. the presence of an establishment) affected you personally though Sir Alf, over all these years?

We should give the positions of authority to chavs from the council estates that'll redress the balance.

I'm liberal minded as they come but moaning the educated have the best jobs is daft when you consider the opposite.

Nepotism can leave a bad taste but everybody does it including the builder employing his own sons.

Occasionally i've met elitest types in organisations like tbe BBC and am always shocked by their lack of understanding of wider society. They mostly hold back potential of creativity, business and the immagination of thought. Its the scourge of government and big organisations.

The media in this country is what 'fire water' was to the red indian in the USA.

Re: "Deeply Elitist UK locks out diversity"
The BBC is the most nepotistic organisation in the world.

And the issue here is social mobility NOT diversity.

It's just another BBC excuse for wherever possible no longer employing white males unrelated to existing staff. See how many asian/black women newsreaders there are and contrast with white working class men.

Obviously being Scottish, Welsh or Irish allows you to be employed.

The media has to be the most elitist of all industries. I dont think Ive ever met anyone from any media organisation that didnt have a private school background.

It's probabaly just as well, what with the shitty job the local councils are doing keeping paedo's away from troubled kids. Imagine what would happen if they got there hands on any biggers jobs.

So aren't rich, white people allowed to knock about together in their little clubs and associations then?

Why the fuck would a well-off, well-educated, white male want to knock about in a social club full of ethnics and chavs?

Re: "Deeply Elitist UK locks out diversity"
I suspect its more about people from comprehensive schools, who are well educated / bright, have experience of living on a limited budget and what its like to not have everything handed to them on a plate, having the chance in certain job sectors like media and high ranking jobs in government and private industry.

We have slipped back to a time where wealth alone is what gets you to the best jobs and positions.

Same as it ever under those Victorian "spread the wealth" supporters ;-)

Social mobility, my arse !

Not exactly groundbreakingly new or unbelievable is it.

You pays more, you gets more.

Simples.

The way of the world wherever you are, pinning this down to the UK is lazy as fuck.

Re: "Deeply Elitist UK locks out diversity"
You have more. You are born with more. You don't understand people who have less. You assume that people who have less choose to work less, choose to have less, and choose to hitch a ride on the backs of the deserving rich.
If you don't believe this, take a walk through the classics departments that these people graduated from.
Or watch Downton abbey
